Jenny Holzer's art has attracted and touched a large audience all over the world. During the 1980s, the artist, who was born in 1950 in Gallipolis, Ohio, presented her provocative political texts in LEDs and scrolling text panels in airports and sports stadiums. In her more recent works, she uses xenon spotlights to project printed messages on building walls, squares and even river surfaces.
This book documents a cross-section of Jenny Holzer's light-art oeuvre, featuring works in which the artist projected texts from her famous Truisms (1977-1979), Inflammatory Essays (1979-1982), Survival (1983-1985) and Mother and Child (1990) series on the monumental steel sculptures of the blast furnace at the former Thyssen steelworks and on other prominent architectural structures in downtown Duisburg during the 2004 ''Duisburger Akzente'' Festival.
